I know that many of you have been patiently awaiting the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Well, your wait is about over! Universal Orlando has announced that the 20 acre park inside of Islands of adventure will open this spring. Fans of the hit books and films will be able to physically step inside and experience the full-size version of the wizard’s magical world when the new area is opened.
The main attraction, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey will take guests through scenes and rooms from the blockbuster movies from right inside Hogwarts Castle itself. Hogwarts has the famous turrets we’ve seen in the movies, and is made to look 700 feet tall.
Potter fans will enter the ‘Wizarding World’ through a station archway named after Hogsmeade, the magical village near Hogwarts. A plume of steam and a train whistle will sound the arrival of the Hogwarts Express.
Other rides include the ‘Dragon Challenge,’ a twin high-speed roller coaster themed after the ‘Triwizard Tournament’. There will also be a family roller coaster called ‘Flight of the Hippogriff,’ named after a creature with an eagle’s head and a horse’s body.
Every shop and restaurant is Potter-themed. Honeydukes sells chocolate frogs and ‘Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans,’ Ollivander’s peddles magic wands, Zonko’s joke shop has Sneakoscopes, and in the British restaurant The Three Broomsticks we’ll finally get to taste Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice!
At The Owl Post, guests can send letters with a certified Hogsmeade postmark. Magical instruments and equipment are available at Dervish and Banges, including everything needed to play Quidditch – for those of you who aren’t fans yet of this famous wizarding game – it’s just like soccer, but played in the sky and on flying broomsticks! Yes, there is a league and world championship too.
Along each journey you will be swept up into the greatest parts of the movies and the books. All technology available has been used to give each guest a theme park experience unlike any they have had before.
Auther J. K. Rowling, known for carefully guarding the Harry Potter franchise, hasn’t yet been to Orlando, but the design team has made several trips to London for consultations with the author.
Don’t be surprised to see possible new footage over time of Harry Potter stars shot from the next few movies on actual sets from Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park is sure to prove popular not just with American fans but also with visitors from Britain, Harry Potter’s home and the largest source of international tourism to Orlando, with about 1 million arrivals a year. Harry Potter is such a huge worldwide brand, and the only place in the world you’re going to be able to experience it is in Orlando.
Universal Orlando also offers its other theme park, Universal Studios, where you will “ride the movies” and go behind the scenes at this workig film and TV studio. After an exciting day at the parks, enjoy Universal CityWalk, for the best in live music, casual and fine dining, shopping, movies and more!
During your visit, enjoy world class accommodations, wonderful dining and many activities at the three onsite resorts. The luxurious Loews Portofino Bay Resort offers an Italian setting, while Loews Royal Pacific Resort will give you the feeling of staying at a tropical paradise. The Hard Rock Hotel promises an exciting stay as you travel like a rock star!
In addition, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines has teamed up with Universal Orlando to offer 3, 4 and 7 night pre or post cruises packaged with your resort stay and theme park visit.
